Drug Information of Stuvert


Cinnarizine 20 mg, domperidone maleate 15 mg


Treatment & prophylaxis of motion sickness; short-term symptomatic treatment of dizziness or vertigo, nausea & vomiting (excluding pregnancy).


Vestibular disorders & vertigo 1 tab bid.
Motion sickness Short trips:
Adult & childn >12 yr 1 tab.
Childn 5-12 yr 1/2 tab. Longer trips (>6 hr to few days):
Adult1 tab tid.
Childn >12 yr 1 tab bid-tid;
5-12 yr 1/2 tab tid.


GI hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation, prolactin-releasing pituitary tumor (prolactinoma).

Special Precautions

Hepatic impairment, severe renal insufficiency. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.

Adverse Drug Reactions

Cinnarizine: Somnolence, headache, dry mouth, perspiration & allergic reactions. Domperidone: Intestinal cramps. Extrapyramidal phenomena which is reversible when treatment is discontinued.

Drug Interactions

Alcohol, CNS depressants, TCAs. Anticholinergics. Azole antifungals, macrolides, HIV protease inhibitors, nefazodone.

Adverse Effect cinnarizine causes additive toxicity with alcohol
Severity Level
5 - Moderate - These medications may interact resulting in the potential deterioration of the patient's condition. The patient should be monitored for the possible manifestations of the interaction. Medical intervention or a change in therapy may be required.

Documentation Level

Well established - There have been several published reports of this interaction. The pharmacological explanation of why the interaction occurs is well documented and understood. There are usually controlled studies that have established that the interactionexists.

cinnarizine belongs to the class of Antihistamines sedating
First generation antihistamines which inhibit the action of histamine at H1-receptors.

alcohol belongs to the class of Alcohol
Alcohol reacts to varying degrees with a large number of medicinal agents.

Probable Mechanism

Sedating antihistamines may potentiate the effects of alcohol resulting in increased sedation. Patients on sedating antihistamines should be advised to avoid alcohol, especially in large amounts and when driving.
